Since moving to the states theMR. has not had a proper hair cut.
ITs been one of the cultural adjustments of being here. When we first arrived we invested in an electric shaver for Adam's face and a set of hair clippers. Figured they were worth the investment since Adam has super tiny curly hair and we were nervous about someone ruining his luscious locks.
while living in Ethiopia Adam kept his hair relatively short and his face shaved to perfection.
Mostly because you can get a shave for 7etb.... which is like $.40
So Adam used to get his face shaved. There was a bit of a learning curve when he started maintaining his own goatee. He also got mostly used to cutting his own hair. Remember when he shaved off his goatee and looked TOTALLY DIFFERENT?
Lately he had been wanting a proper hair cut.
So we were out running errands, waiting to catch a movie and we stopped in at Craigs Cuts.
DON'T GO THERE.
The girl was nice.
The service fast.
The CUT wayyyy short.
& Adam had to trim up his neck and fade it himself on the back. She just couldn't do it.
Its a good thing he is so freaking good looking. So no one would even notice.
Anyone know someone good, who has experience with ethnic hair? It's not kinky, its just these amazing little curls. Let us know.
It's one of my fears of having children.
Will I know how to do their hair?
Dreads maybe?
Clean shave for the boys....I better learn how to braid!
♥ theMRS.
My friend adopted two children from Swaziland and had no idea how to take care of their hair. She pays a friend to braid the girls hair and has just been taught how to do the dreads on her son. It's a regular challenge for her!
ReplyDeleteMy husband rarely has a hair cut. It grows fast so he will go from a "bush-man" style to a shaved head. He likes to throw his daughter off by that too. :)
I've been wondering where you have been! That sucks. I am sure there are barbers and places up hear that deal with ethnic hair.
ReplyDeleteNo one else in your circle might point this out...but I think you should know that its a bit off key that 1) you called it "ethnic" hair. and 2) you used the word kinky (in the context of it being a direct opposite to 'amazing' hair.
ReplyDelete*sigh* - Is everyone else "ethnic" but white people? Just take him to a black barber shop. You'll have to do this for your kids as well once they're born.
Where have you been, lady??
ReplyDeleteSorry about the haircut. I hope you find someone good.
I'm with everyone else. Where have you been? I've missed you!!
ReplyDeleteI just took ZK to Ebony and Ivory and it was FABULOUS! Her hair looks amazing. Check them out... and then go to Mahider afterward. :)
My friend took a class when her daughter was a baby to learn braids, coils, and how to take care of her skin and stuff. You will do whatever it takes when you have kids and it will be FINE! There has to be some legit barber somewhere who can take care of Adam.
