Living with a Boy VIII- Secret Single Behavior

I am a fan of Sex and the City. I watched most of it on TBS so the episodes were edited. BOY was I shocked when I saw a REAL episode.
NOT.WHAT.I.WAS.EXPECTING

One of my FAVORITE episodes is TheGoodFight
Carrie talks about her Secret Single Behavior- she is adjusting to living with Aidan and felt like she couldn’t do the things she did at home while single. For her it was eating saltines standing up in the kitchen while she read gossip magazines. For another one of her friends its staring at her pore. For crazy Samantha = nothing.

Since I’ve been home alone for two weeks I started looking around at what my SSB might be. Living with Adam has been a really natural progression of our relationship. It felt like home. I didn’t notice any major changes when we spent our first 9 months of wedded bliss in our little LOVE BASEMENT.

Then as I was looking around frantically at what I needed to [fix/clean up/organize] before theMR. Gets back and I FOUND IT.

Meet my SSB:

I am a terrible sleeper. I like to roll all over that bed, get tangles up in the sheet and leave it looking like no civilized person has ever been there.

Its true.

I am totally guilty of a messy bed.

I LIKE IT THAT WAY.
Nay, I love it that way.

Now that I am hitched I am a lot more cordial in bed. There is another person in bed, there are TOP sheets to be considered and the pillows they have a place don’t they?

Not when I am home alone. I want to sleep sideways or upways or however feels good.

So tonight I will be washing the sheet.
&making the bed look presentable.
I mean, I have to maintain some sense of propriety.

  • What is your SSB?
  • Do you revert back when your significant other is out of town?

conversations.

My [husband/parents/sister] have been in Ethiopia. for the past two week.
Talking to theMR. has been easier this time around. We perfected that last summer
My PARENTS however, another story.

NOTE TO SELF: get parents an Ethiopian mobile phone

They are finally back in Addis where there are better email/phone connections. My mom and I facebook chatted a little this afternoon:

They missed me.
because I am usually the one who gets eaten alive by the bugs and spends a day or two with diarrhea. {the proof is in posts my friends}

Ha ha ha.
Sad, but TRUE.
Yep, but where is my klout for that?

in a perfect world

Today sucks.
BAD.
Big time.
This has not been my week.
Or weeks for that matter.

I have decided to ban my [husband/parents] from traveling.
Bad things happen while they are gone.

So when I stumbled upon {THESE} I loved them. For the little smile they gave me this morning.

Hope your Wednesday is going better!

WHAT is even in Ethiopia?

Ethiopia is home to several  UNESCO world heritage sites
Don't believe me, check the link.

My co-worker Colby stumbled upon this amazing site, which allows you to see 360 views of many of Ethiopia's historical sites and places of interest. They are really beautiful.

If you click on the Lucy link in Addis, I lived not to far from here when I was visiting the city. Adam studied Law at Gondar University. The castle below is where he was going to propose to me. WE never made it there. SAD huh? He promised one day we will. I can't wait to see it all.

Next year we are both going back. That trip we will go on Safari in Kenya. Adam has never been! It will be so exciting. The next trip (probably 2015) we are going to all the historical sites. SO excited to explore more of the county we both call Home.

Click on over and take a look at all Ethiopia has to offer!

blinks of life...

IT has become evident that we need to buy a second camera.
I want the canon HD one that takes good pictures in low light, yeah I got sucked in by the advertising.
Adam took ours to Ethiopia, so you are stuck with blurry camera phone pictures, from my ghetto phone.

Couple of interesting developments around these parts.

1. Salad with Chicken for din din 2. we were behind the DeLorean in line. AWESOME and totally random!  3. I {HEART} Mangoes. I miss getting Mangoes for next to free in Ethiopia. Actually I miss all the cheap produce.

4. Thank you card from my FAVORITE little one year old. He has a great sense of humor.  5. NEW WATCH, cost me $5!  6. My mouse pad, that makes me husband sick...instead of home sick.

7. We spend a lot of money on this website. Feels really fake the first few times you purchase. WORKS LIKE A charm.    8. YEAH, its a slap bracelet.     9. I get lonely at night. Thanks to [twitter/facebook/blogging] I feel like I have a few things to do at night.

Ethiopia: Providing Urgent Assistance to Refugees in Dolo Ado

Have you guys seen this:

Providing Urgent Assistance to Refugees in Dolo Ado

I am a Mormon. I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As part of the initiatives of our church we have humanitarian/service missionaries that serve all over the world. Sometimes they are called water missionaries- they complete a lot of clean water Projects.

The Humanitarian missionaries serving in Ethiopia posted this:
It is amazing to be part of a Church who mobilizes so quickly to try and help care for the poor and needy & help with disaster relief.

This is literally just a day after the Water Missionaries met my family in Gindo to look at a new project site.

I love Ethiopia.I hope they can find a way to support the Somali people, keep things safe and grow stronger.

I pray that the agencies that are getting involved in these efforts will help foster self reliance.

That peace can finally come to Somali.

That we can all work together to take care of our brothers and sisters in East Africa. Because lets face it, we are all apart of this global society.

Living alone is kind of creepy

NO JOKE. it is.
The other day I watched snapped and then a totally creepy marathon of Criminal Minds. FREAKED ME OUT.
then it was a little after 1:30am and I hear a LOUD crash of GLASS outside.
It wasn't the TV, it was a real crash of gas.

so I turned the TV down, put shoes on.... not sure why? I guess If I had to RUN from someone creepy, that could....then I looked out the peep hole.

NOTHING.

Not sure what I expected maybe a criminal standing there, or an EYEBALL staring back at me. That would be  been more reasonable.

So I turned the porch light on, slowly opened the door to find
the porch light was broken. GLASS allover the stairs and landing.

weird.creepy.eerie.
I didn't sleep much that night.
which lead to exhaustion & a bad sleep cycle.

its made things rough. + the fact Ethiopia is like 9 hours ahead of us. & I like talking to my husband at night.

We have a new routine.
THEN I try using our calling Ethiopia minutes to call him back.
Sometimes I get through right away, other times it can take a few times. Or a million times and it seems like it takes FOR-EVER.
Then we talk for about 20 minutes until he has to go.

It is like when we were dating.
Who know one person could turn your world so upside down.

I decided I was going to write Adam love letters while he was gone. I have 3 already. I miss him tons, and think of silly little things I want to tell him so I write love letters. Weird I know. It keeps me sane.

ethiopia is everywhere.

Or maybe its just on my brain because Adam is there and I'm NOT.
And we just saw all our Ethiopian Friends.
& Kate made a definitive declaration that she is going back

It maybe on the least expensive list,
but it doesn't feel that way when you live there
& make local wages.

Via
When I talked to Adam upon his arrival the first thing he said- BABEYE' its expensive here, the inflation is bad.

that is part of the third world. Inflation that stops you from being able to buy your groceries. feed your children. have a roof over your head.

when I moved to Ethiopia in Jan 2010 the exchange rate was 13.1etb : 1USD
Now its 17.8 etb:1 USD

so if you take US money, sure its cheap.
If you make 600etb a month with no adjustment
you starve.

♥ the MRS.

We've had a busy year.

Since Adam has been gone, I've been reminiscing a lot
I was thinking of the time we have spent here in the US. It's been almost a year since we flew back to the US.
SO much has happened.
So much has changed.
& we got around a lot in the last 12 months.

Just looking at this makes me feel a little ill.

By the end of this year there will be a few more dots on the map.
Idaho.
Las Vegas.
Hopefully Santa Barbara.

So even though the thought of the flights makes me sick,
the endless possibilities make me excited.
(and feel really lucky for the opportunities we have had)

I wonder where this life will take us.

I had a giant list of things I was going to get done tonight.
instead I watched a criminal minds marathon, decided I was going to try to stay awake until Adam calls tomorrow morning.

Teddy gets married/We should buy a couch and other ramblings

yesterday I remember why I hate anyplace north of SLC. we left our house early to head to Eden. Got stuck on the freeway in bountiful. Stupid I-15 construction traffic, I hate you. We thought for sure we missed the wedding.

good thing the bride was behind. Buy the time we navigated traffic, got gas, bought a coke to stop ourselves from dying of heat exhaustion* (it may be time to fix the AC in vinny) we made it just in time.

We got to chat with LOTS of our Ethiopian friends before the ceremony started. So fun to see the people that were so much a part of our lives and our love story. The kids that I adore. The friends that I made. They will all be a part of our lives forever.

Adam got to talk to Paul, his old employer. We caught up about married life, our plans in the US and he was excited to hear Adam's ideas about school and work.

It was beautiful in Eden.
So nice.
The ceremony was short.
sweet.
then we all ran to the reception center to [talk/eat/dance].

I've known Teddy for years. So weird to see him in the US, in my country. He was one of the drivers in Ethiopia. He moved on to owning his own bus and then working for an American company in Addis. Where he met his wife. CONGRATS Teddy.

I drove home in the heat. we were tired. we napped and decided it was time for a
lovers night in
sometimes. When we decide to have a night in. I wish we had a couch.
OUR little love basement has a small family room.
We have a couch + a GIANT LUV sac.

When we want to watch a movie and I want to lay with my head in Adam's lap I wish we had a couch. or a bigger family room, but I love our little basement.
After we went to a wedding yesterday I started thinking about our 9 month journey. Our marriage is old enough to be born. WEIRD. I am so glad I met Adam. That we flirted. Dated. Fell in love and decided to marry. It really is a GIANT leap of faith to get married. To trust someone so completely.

I never really thought I would get there.
I always dreamed I would, but deep down I never thought I could.
 & then there was Adam.
on the luv sac. Me on the love seat, wishing we had a couch so we could properly snuggle during a movie.

Don't waste your time with Sanctum. There is weird music through the entire thing making it impossible to believe that anything happening on screen is actually happening. Oh and the acting is crap.

The Company Men = wonderful.
we ♥ed it.

I am getting depressed about being a lone for two weeks.

The weirdest 3 minutes of my life.

Have you ever walked into the bathroom.
Peed on a sick and then waited for it to turn colors?

I did. And it was the weirdest three minutes of my life.
Not because it was negative.
Not because we are trying.
But those three minutes seem to stretch on for ages.

And you wonder.
And question
And think.

Then I couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed. I don’t know why. Because I am crazy? Yes. That is the only logical answer.

Or because it would have been a life changing, world rocking surprise.
And it would have been amazing all at the same time.

We have some names picked out that we both love.
I just hope we have a boy.
Because theMR. & I can't agree on a girl name to save our lives.
It is a good thing we have a few year still.

NO we won't tell your our names. For fear that you HATE them and ruin them for us. OR LOVE them and steal them.

when the time comes, we will be awesome parents.
& to tell you the truth I am kind of getting excited about it.

Dear Future Children,

the other day Dad called me at  work to see when I would be done. I was cooking dinner and wanted to make sure it was all ready when I got home.

And it was.
And the dishes were done. The family room vacuumed & the bed made.

I know it sounds so silly, but its these little things that make me love your dad so much. Its how I know he cares about me. Thinks about me when I am not home and wants to take care of me.

Your dad is a great man.
& a pretty good cook!

PS. There is nothing better than coming home to a clean house. Remember that. EVEN when you are packing for vacation- CLEAN UP! You will be really glad you did.

my life in pictures

Things have been a whirlwind lately. I have so much to tell you all and so little time. Or at least it seems.

So thank goodness to my ghetto phone. Glad its not as ghetto as my last phone and actually ahs a camera feature. That’s pretty good right?
 Photobucket

I’ve been trying to eat lighter since its the summer. theMR. Still eats whatever he wants. I’ve been whipping up lots of salads. I love salad with avocado. YUM and a grilled veggie sandwich.

Thinking about starting the whole 30 day program while theMR. Is overseas. It would just be me, and I would be more likely to finish if I had two weeks of success.

I heart lunch dates. Aren’t they the best? When I was dating I loved them. Now that I am married, they are even better. Nothing like taking a long lunch with my skinneye’.

Dear Slab pizza,
Please start tweeting free pizza again like you used to. Thanks.

We now drink VOSS water because we are so rich and fancy.
Did you all chuckle at that?
I DID! Hee hee

Ok but really have you seen Grown Ups?
It is one of our favorite movies. We both like it.
They talk about VOSS water like a million times in the movie. Its comical. I thought nothing of it really….
Mean guy- And uh... hey! Next time you come to town I'll have plenty of that Boss water for your kid        Wouldn't want him to go thirsty

Adam Sandler-   All right, well uh... just for the record It's Voss water by the way, with a V

Mean Guy-   Ooh - Okay

Until they had VOSS at TJ Max. RANDOM find I know. So of course we bought it. Stuck it in the fridge and did a taste test. It’s pretty good! But not worth the price. We will just fill ours up again with tap water and pawn if off on our guests as fancy.

Adam bought me a fan!  He must really love me.
I hate being hot in bed. This helps a lot. Poor guys is now freezing. He takes our thick flannel quilt my ward made us to bed every night. It’s a good compromise.
I didn’t want to spend the money on one.
He insisted.
That’s how I know he loves me.

I’ve been craving Ethiopian food. YUmmm tibssssss….Salad…..doro…..yum… Adam and I helped my parents present about Ethiopia. My LOVELY husband made enough food for 50 people to sample. There were less people than expected but they still ate it all. My man is a good cook! Then we ate the left over injera for days. Yumm. That is the only reason I want to live closer to SLC. To get injera faster.

My niece Avery is the kissing police.
She keeps asking- “Why do you guys keep kissing each other?”
Me- because we are in love
Avery- “oh geez. You are. Want to play guess who?”
FYI I am really good at guess who!
Not so good at twister, but neither is Aves she is 4 so her limbs are a little too short.

& that's my life in a nut shell!

Staycation Day I

Remember last week when I took a day off?

Since theMR. and I won't be taking a proper vacation year we decided to take a few staycation days throughout the summer.

June has been a CRAZY. I am GLAD its over. I am still shocked its  over. WOW.

Our DAY of nothing actually turned into something. IT all started with a little desayuno. Adam had seen the signs for "this really good looking breakfast place" so we decided to try it out. Little did I know it was a Mexican hole in the wall. Once we were in the doors we felt stuck.

It was fun-
Photobucket

1. Adam trying to figure out what the HECK was going on. 2. My breakfast burrito...I picked right. 3. the chips and Salsa & Adams WEIRD breakfast. 4. Adam told me to smile then he something funny.....What did he say. BLAST I cant remember but it made me LAUGH oh so hard. {YES I REALLY LOOK LIKE THAT WHEN I LAUGH} 5. We should have sat outside. 6. The wanted posters. AWESOME and authentic.

After Bfast we decided to go shoe shopping. Adam needed a new pair. He of course bought the first pair I suggested he try on. NOT because he loved them at first, but I am a REALLY good shoe shopper. I know what he likes and I NAILED it.

I got part bored and started making silly faces to stay entrained.
Photobucket

On our way out of the Mall we saw all these aluminum statues for sale. I am a sucker for these guys. I love them! Couldn't tell you why. They are kind of ridiculous. But I LOVE to stop whenever I see them. I have a dream of having a giant turtle or hippos somewhere in my yard- when I in fact have a yard.

So we played tourist and stopped. WE WERE SHOCKED...the prices for these stupid little guys has gone up so much in the last few years. Isn't that bear awesome/weird? I mean what would you do with it.

After we snooped around for a while we headed to my parents house. Where Adam indulged my need to do nothing in the pool and focus on being evenly-ish tanned. That is MY ideal relaxing nothing day: pool + magazines + cold drink
 Photobucket

Then we met up with our friends [men not pictured] at Settebello's. If you live in UTAH, it is a must try. So yummy. It was so fun to ACTUALLY get to talk . It seems like lately there is not enough time in the world. Especially since CANN was about on her way home. Jon is deployed right now so she is a single mama. I can't imagine how hard that would be.

We decided we needed a picture. It was the first time we were all together since Vegas 2009. WAIT...can that be right? WOW....way too long.

We were all too distracted by the flying baby to look at one camera at the same time. Scott was making Jonathan fly by as we posed. It was hilarious
Photobucket

&because theMR. is the best husband in the world he went to see one of MY movies. Bad teachers....eh, wait til it hits the dollar theater.

It was the perfect ending to an amazing day.
It was so REFRESHING to have time together...just us. No agenda's. No jobs. No reason to worry.
